紐約同源會、教育聯盟 挺艾維樂選連任
隨著13日(周四)初選在即，紐約同源會聯同教育聯盟(CoalitionEdu)11日在法拉盛召開記者會，討論保護特殊高中現有錄取標準，表示支持紐約州第11選區現任州參議員艾維樂(Tony Avella)參選。
紐約同源會會長陳慧華表示，過去四年，艾維樂一直致力於確保紐約民眾的平等，為更多人提供機會。
她指出，艾維樂支持特殊高中入學測驗(SHSAT)作為特殊高中錄取的唯一標準，還多次呼籲州政府撥款，為紐約市家庭清寒的學生提供免費SHSAT輔導項目；艾維樂也一直推動紐約市資優班(Gifted and Talented Program)項目，旨在解決紐約公校的根本問題，讓更多學生有機會進入特殊高中。
陳慧華說，艾維樂的對手劉醇逸，僅表示反對紐約市長白思豪提出的特殊高中錄取標準改革，雖然支持保留SHSAT，但同時也支持通過多種標準衡量學生、以實現特殊高中的多元性。
教育聯盟(CoalitionEdu)代表Charlie Vavruska表示，自特殊高中改革事件發生，艾維樂一直加入民眾的抗議行列中，而劉醇逸雖口頭反對市長的計畫，卻鮮少參加抗議活動。
他表示，特殊高中缺少多元性的問題並不是紐約公校問題的實質，市長提出取消考試，只是為掩蓋紐約公校的問題，並不能解決實質問題；他說，大家應投票給真正支持SHSAT作為特殊高中唯一錄取標準的參選人。
紐約同源會司規、前史岱文森高中(Stuyvesant HS)家長會共同主席林小蓮、皇后區第24學區教育委員會華裔委員黃友興、亞裔維權人士羅維宗當日也出席記者會，支持艾維樂。
